Wilmots handed Belgium post
Brussels, Belgium (Sports Network) - Former Belgium international Marc Wilmots was named the country's new coach on Wednesday, replacing Georges Leekens after his move to Club Brugge.
Wilmots was capped 70 times by Belgium and enjoyed a long club career with stints at Standard Liege, Schalke and Bordeaux. He has served as on the coaching side of the national team since 2009 when he became Dick Advocaat's assistant.
The 43-year-old signed a two-year contract with the national team, which would take him through the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Wilmots originally took control of the team on a temporary basis for Belgium's 2-2 friendly draw with Montenegro and its 1-0 loss to England.
