Real Madrid take down Mallorca 4-1

Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid

What happened: Real Madrid were presented the Primera Division trophy after a 32nd win of the season that saw them become the first Spanish side to hit the 100-point mark in the league following a 4-1 win over visiting Mallorca.

Key moment: Down 3-0 early in the second half, Gonzalo Castro pulled one back for Mallorca in the 51st minute, but any ambition the guests may have had regarding a comeback were put to bed just nine minutes later when Mesut Ozil completed his first brace for Real Madrid. Marcelo was the architect of the goal with an accurate cross from the edge of the area to the far post where Ozil finished past Dudu Aouate. The Germany international got his first four minutes after the restart when he converted from 13 yards after receiving the ball from Gonzalo Higuain.

From here: Real Madrid were presented the trophy following a glittering ceremony at the Bernabeu in which manager Jose Mourinho fell to his knees as he bowed in front of his players. Madrid are the first Spanish side to have hit 100 points in a season and finish the campaign nine points above runners-up Barcelona. Mallorca wind up the season in eighth spot.

Difference maker: Marcelo. The 23-year-old left-back capped off a breakthrough season with a pair of assists—the first to Ronaldo for the opener in the 18th minute and the second just shy of the hour mark on Ozil’s second of the night.
