Report: CFL star Eric Rogers lands with 49ers after visiting 16 NFL teams
The San Francisco 49ers have signed CFL star wide receiver Eric Rogers, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Rogers, a product of Cal Lutheran, began to draw NFL interest after recording 87 receptions for a league-best 1,448 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Calgary Stampeders in 2015.
The highly productive season, just his second since making his Canadian football debut in 2014, reportedly earned him visits with 16 different NFL teams before he landed with San Francisco.
His contract with the 49ers is a two-year deal that includes a $125,000 signing bonus, $75,000 in other bonuses, and a $100,000 base salary guarantee, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
While CFL stars can often struggle to maintain their level of play in the NFL, there are numerous examples of players making a successful transition south of the border.
Among the most notable recent examples are Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake, New Orleans Saints cornerback Delvin Breaux, and Indianapolis Colts linebacker Jerrell Freeman.
Rogers will enter 49ers training camp this summer with an opportunity to compete for a roster spot and potentially a role within Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense, alongside an otherwise thin group of receivers.
