Eskimos clinch West title with decisive win over Alouettes

The Edmonton Eskimos are officially the best in the West.

Quarterback Mike Reilly stole the show in the 40-22 West-clinching win over the Montreal Alouettes, throwing for 309 yards and three touchdowns on 28-of-34 passing. But not to be outdone, his main target, Derel Walker, also had quite the day.

The wide receiver caught all three of Reilly's touchdown passes, racking up 127 yards on 11 catches. Kicker Sean Whyte deserves some praise as well, converting four field goals and four PAT's.

With the victory, the Eskimos earned a bye into the Western Final for the first time since 2003. They'll play the winner between the BC Lions and Calgary Stampeders.

For the Alouettes, the playoff dream is done, as they'll miss the postseason for the first time since 1996.

It was a wasted effort for quarterback Kevin Glenn, who posted good enough numbers to win, throwing for 236 yards, three touchdowns, and a pick on 18-of-27 passing.

Wide receiver B.J. Cunningham was on his game, too, catching a pair of touchdown passes on only three touches.

Next week, Montreal will close out its season at home against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, while Edmonton will enjoy its second bye of the season.
