Sean Whyte's sixth field goal of the night was the difference as the Edmonton Eskimos edged the BC Lions 26-23 for the team's sixth straight victory.

The 29-year-old made a 16-yard kick with three seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and then split the uprights with a 30-yard game-winner to keep the Eskimos (12-4) in first place.

Despite losing lost five of their last six games, the Lions (5-10) remain third in the West, ahead of Winnipeg and Saskatchewan.

Mike Reilly had a successful night through the air for Edmonton throwing for 332 yards, but the offence struggled in the red zone and relied on Whyte to score 19 of its 26 points.

Down three with under two minutes to play, Reilly drove the offence the length of the field, hitting Adarius Bowman three times on the drive to set up Whyte's game-tying kick. The teams exchanged field goals in the overtime session, before Bryan Burnham picked off a Jonathon Jennings pass to start the second extra frame.

It was all up to Whyte from there, and the ninth-year kicker made no mistake, drilling the winning field goal and keeping the Eskimos atop the West standings tied with their provincial rival Calgary Stampeders.
