Mitchell, Stampeders continue dominance of Argonauts

The Calgary Stampeders seem to have the Toronto Argonauts' number, regardless of where the game is played.

Calgary earned its fourth straight victory over Toronto with a 27-15 win at Tim Hortons Field on Saturday. The game was a home contest for the Argos, but had to be played at the home of their arch-rivals in Hamilton due to the Toronto Blue Jays' playoff run forcing the Argos out of Rogers Centre.

Bo Levi Mitchell led the way for Calgary, going 21-of-28 for 266 yards with a pair of touchdown passes. Marquay McDaniel was his favourite target, hauling in seven catches for 71 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown grab, while Eric Rogers was the Stamps' leading receiver with four catches for 91 yards. Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel picked up his 100th career CFL victory.

It was a rough night all around for the Argonauts, who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Quarterback Trevor Harris had one of his worst efforts of the season, completing 26-of-44 passes for 260 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. Their running game was also grounded by the Calgary defence, as Curtis Steele and Brandon Whitaker combined for just 59 rushing yards.

If all of that wasn't bad enough for the homeless Boatmen, they also had to watch star receiver Chad Owens leave with a serious-looking injury in the fourth quarter. However, head coach Scott Milanovich described Owens' ailment, a foot issue, as being "not as serious as I thought" after the game.

With the win, Calgary is still tied atop the West Division with Edmonton, as the Eskimos also won Saturday, defeating the BC Lions in overtime. Toronto remained tied for first in the East with Hamilton and Ottawa, with the Tiger-Cats looking to grab the top spot for themselves when they take on the Montreal Alouettes on Sunday.

Toronto hasn't beat the Stampeders since a 33-27 win on Sept. 21, 2013 in Calgary.
