RedBlacks clinch playoff berth with narrow victory over Blue Bombers
The Ottawa RedBlacks clinched a playoff berth with Friday's 27-24 victory, holding off a late push by the struggling Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The berth is the RedBlacks' first in franchise history, and the first for an Ottawa franchise since the Rough Riders in 1994.
The victory puts Ottawa into a first-place tie with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts, who both play on the weekend.
Winnipeg missed a chance to move ahead of the B.C. Lions, who play the Edmonton Eskimos Saturday.
The ageless Henry Burris continued his great season Friday night. The 16-year veteran quarterback finished 34-for-43 with 351 yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, the Blue Bombers continued to struggle to move the ball on offense, as quarterback Matt Nichols finished 27-for-40 with 235 yards and three touchdowns to match three interceptions.
Next week, the game switches locations as the teams square off in a rematch at Investors Group Field.
