Veteran Winnipeg Blue Bombers punter Mike Renaud announces retirement

WINNIPEG - Mike Renaud is calling it a career.

The veteran punter announced his retirement Thursday following six CFL seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Winnipeg," Renaud said in a statement. "I really, honestly, cherished my time as a Bomber and love the organization.

"It's a place I wanted my career to end when that time did come. It’s time to move on and enjoy life after football."

Winnipeg acquired Renaud from the Calgary Stampeders in June 2009. He played in 86 games over six seasons and finishes ranked fourth all-time in Bombers punting yardage.

Last year, Renaud received the Athletes in Action Gord Barwell Award, presented to the CFL player who exhibits exemplary Christian conduct and leadership on and off of the field.

"Mike has been a great asset for this organization, both on and off the field, for quite some time now," said Bombers GM Kyle Walters. "He had a great career as a member of our organization and was a real pro all the way through.

"He's a real team-first type of player and those are the guys you look to build around."
