Eskimos trade Fred Stamps to Alouettes for Kenny Stafford

The Fred Stamps era is over in Edmonton.

The Edmonton Eskimos traded Stamps to the Montreal Alouettes in exchange for Kenny Stafford on Friday.

Stamps has spent his entire CFL career with the Eskimos, recording six seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards. He is second all-time among Eskimos players with 7,932 receiving yards. Injuries hampered Stamps in 2014, limiting him to 545 yards and two touchdowns on 33 receptions.

"This will probably be my last game as an Eskimo. Hopefully, it's not," Stamps said after Edmonton lost in the 2014 West Final.

The Alouettes may enter 2015 without Duron Carter or S.J. Green - two of their top receiving options over the last few seasons. Both Carter and Green are free agents, so the acquisition of Stamps buys Montreal some peace of mind in its receiving corps.

Stafford caught 20 passes for 230 yards as a sophomore with the Alouettes in 2014.
