Slaton, Smith, Love and Yurichuk all named CFL players of the week

TORONTO - Toronto Argonauts running back Steve Slaton, who had 157 yards from scrimmage and a TD in a 26-24 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, was named the CFL's offensive player of the week Tuesday.

Slaton had 80 yards rushing on 16 carries and added five catches for 77 yards in the contest, which kept Toronto's hopes alive for a first-place finish in the East Division standings. Slaton is in his first CFL season and has rushed for 428 yards while recording 34 receptions for 301 yards for a combined five TDs.

Defensive end Khreem Smith of the B.C. Lions is the top defensive player after registering four sacks and eight tackles in a 28-23 road win over Winnipeg. Smith, in ins fourth CFL season, has recorded career highs already in tackles (46) and sacks (11) with two regular-season games remaining.

Calgary Stampeders linebacker Glenn Love claimed special-teams honours. Love had a career-high four special-teams tackles in a 40-27 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Toronto linebacker James Yurichuk was named the top Canadian. The native of Brampton, Ont., had three tackles, his first career sack, special-teams tackle and interception against Hamilton, the sack coming on the final play of the game to seal the Argos' win.
