CFL Game Summary - Montreal at Ottawa

Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Lifted by a defensive touchdown in the second quarter, the Montreal Alouettes held on to defeat the Ottawa RedBlacks, 15-7, in a low-scoring affair at TD place.

S.J. Green reeled in eight passes for 132 yards for Montreal (5-8), which won its second straight game to capture first place in the East Division, two points ahead of Hamilton and Toronto.

Jonathan Crompton struggled under center for the Alouettes, completing 14- of-29 passes for 181 yards with two interceptions. Brandon Whitaker picked up 69 yards on 15 carries.

For Ottawa (1-11), losers of nine in a row, Jonathan Williams (12 carries, 59 yards) had the game's only offensive touchdown. Henry Burris threw for 253 yards on 25-of-32 passing, with Khalil Paden (five receptions, 52 yards) his top receiver.

After a scoreless first quarter, Montreal took a 7-0 lead early in the second thanks to its defense. Ottawa fumbled deep in Montreal territory, which was recovered by Aaron Lavarias and lateraled to Chip Cox in what turned into an 85-yard touchdown return.

The Alouettes made it 10-0 later in the frame on a 14-yard field goal by Sean Whyte.

The RedBlacks chipped into their deficit with less than a minute to play before halftime when Williams ran in a 23-yard touchdown.

Montreal added a pair of singles in a quiet third quarter to go ahead by five, 12-7.

The Alouttes padded their lead with a 15-yard field goal by Whyte with just over six minutes remaining.

On 3rd-and-1 past midfield with under three minutes to play, Ottawa was stuffed on a run play and turned the ball over on downs.

The RedBlacks got the ball back with 1:23 left on their own 20-yard line. Burris marched the team inside Montreal's 10-yard line, but the comeback attempt was spoiled when Montreal sacked Burris to end the game.
