CFL Game Summary - Montreal at Edmonton

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Reilly's performance was worthy of a thumbs up.

The Edmonton quarterback made a triumphant return on Friday night, leading the Eskimos to a 33-16 win over the Montreal Alouettes at Commonwealth Stadium.

Reilly missed the last two games, a pair of losses to Calgary, with an injured thumb on his throwing hand. He completed 22-of-32 passes for 271 yards and ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Adarius Bowman had 131 yards on 10 receptions for Edmonton (8-3).

Jonathan Crompton was 15-of-27 with 169 yards and a touchdown for the Alouettes (3-8), who had their winning streak snapped at two games.

"It was a game where we just couldn't get the offense that we would have liked to have had, but that's what happens when you play against a pretty good defense," said Montreal head coach Tom Higgins. "We hung in there defensively, and all of a sudden it started to break and it opened up out there. Edmonton ends up winning and we have to re-evaluate. We faded a bit in the fourth quarter and couldn't finish."

The first three quarters was a battle between Edmonton kicker Hugh O'Neill and Montreal's Sean Whyte as there were no touchdowns scored.

Montreal grabbed a 16-12 lead when Crompton opened the fourth quarter with a 64-yard scoring strike to Duron Carter.

The Eskimos responded on the ensuing drive as a 48-yard grab by Bowman helped set up Reilly's 1-yard TD plunge.

Tyler Thomas then ran for a 20-yard TD before Reilly scored on a draw.

"We were trying to kind of build the intensity the whole game, we came in and we had a big talk at halftime just amongst us as players and I was pretty fired up," said Reilly. "I just felt like we were capable of doing that the entire game and we were just killing ourselves with mental lapses.

"And you don't want to let a team like Montreal hang around. You want to put points on the board and not make it tough on your defense. When they scored to go ahead, the urgency switch got flipped."
