RedBlacks acquire Drew Tate from Stamps
The Ottawa RedBlacks have acquired quarterback Drew Tate from the Calgary Stampeders for a fifth-round pick in the 2018 CFL Draft, the teams announced Tuesday.
Tate, 32, spent all eight previous seasons of his CFL career with the Stamps, serving primarily as a backup. He had two rushing touchdowns in the 2014 Grey Cup to help Calgary win the championship over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Ottawa, now the defending titlist, is set to move forward with Trevor Harris at quarterback following the retirement of Henry Burris, but could still use Tate as insurance.
"It's always paramount in the CFL to have at least two veteran quarterbacks that you know you can win with," said RedBlacks coach Rick Campbell. "Drew is a proven performer in this league and we're happy to have him in Ottawa."
Tate has thrown for 4,670 yards with 32 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in his career.
