Agent: Vince Young, Roughriders in contract discussions

It appears the Vince Young comeback train is gaining some steam.

The former NFL quarterback has entered into contract discussions with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, according to his agent, Leigh Steinberg.

Young signed with Steinberg's agency on Tuesday in hopes of restarting his stalled football career. He hasn't played in a regular-season game since 2011 when he appeared in six - including three starts - for the Philadelphia Eagles. Since then, Young's had brief offseason stints with the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, and Cleveland Browns but never made another active roster.

The Roughriders are in need of a new starting quarterback after trading Darian Durant to the Montreal Alouettes in January. The team added Young to its negotiation list earlier this month.

Young is perhaps best remembered for his time at Texas when he led the Longhorns to a national championship, defeating USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl. He passed for 267 yards and added another 200 yards and three touchdowns on the ground in that epic 41-38 victory before being drafted third overall by the Titans.

It started well in Tennessee, with Young winning Offensive Rookie of the Year and earning a Pro Bowl spot in 2006. However, a number of injuries and a failure to live up to expectations led to his NFL stay being much shorter than most experts predicted.
