The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released Kevin Glenn on Friday, just four months after trading for the veteran quarterback.

"The decision was made to grant Kevin the opportunity to explore other options after we informed him we weren't going to be able to immediately come to an agreement contractually," Blue Bombers general manager Kyle Walters said in a statement released by the team. "Given Kevin's longevity and veteran status in our league, we felt it was appropriate and the right thing to do given the circumstances."

Winnipeg acquired Glenn on Sept. 11 in a trade with Montreal, sending a fourth-round pick in the 2018 CFL Draft to the Alouettes in return. The Bombers had traded Drew Willy to the Toronto Argonauts on the same day and brought Glenn in to serve as an experienced backup behind starting quarterback Matt Nichols.

The 37-year-old Glenn, who's played for every team in the CFL except the Edmonton Eskimos, was in his second stint in Winnipeg, having played there from 2004-08.

Glenn saw limited action for the Bombers, appearing in just one game this past season. For his career, Glenn has passed for 48,782 yards, seventh-most in CFL history, with 270 touchdowns and 193 interceptions.
