Stampeders rout Lions to advance to Grey Cup

If there was any worry a first-round bye would slow down any momentum the Calgary Stampeders had from a 15-win season, they were put to rest by halftime in the West Final against the BC Lions, ending in a 42-15 victory.

The Stampeders scored 24 points in the second quarter, highlighted by rookie DaVaris Daniels' 76-yard touchdown reception from Bo Levi Mitchell, which broke the game open at 22-0.

Then, just before the half, Lions quarterback Jonathon Jennings was intercepted by defensive back Jamar Wall, who returned it 42 yards for the touchdown and 32-0 halftime lead.

Jennings was replaced by Travis Lulay to start the third quarter and led the Lions to a touchdown on the opening drive. However, on their next possession, Lulay was intercepted and Jennings returned behind centre.

Mitchell, a Most Outstanding Player nominee, finished with 365 passing yards, three touchdowns, and an interception, while completing 75 percent of his passes.

Daniels hauled in four receptions for 107 yards, joining Marquay McDaniel and his four receptions and 131 yards as the two Stampeders receivers to go over 100 yards.

Fellow receiver Lemar Durant had a receiving and rushing touchdown in the game, including the opening score.

Jennings and Lulay combined to complete 70 percent of their passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw a total of two interceptions, while being sacked twice.

Calgary returns to the Grey Cup after winning it all in 2014, where it will face the Ottawa RedBlacks.
