Stampeders, Lions renew rivalry in Western final
If anyone can stop the juggernaut that is the Calgary Stampeders, it might just be the BC Lions.
The Stamps lost only two games this season, but one of those was a Week 1 contest against the Lions. BC escaped with a narrow 20-18 victory and also played Calgary tough in a 44-41 loss in July.
If BC wants to continue its success against Calgary, it'll need Jonathon Jennings to maintain his stellar play. The Lions quarterback threw for more than 5,200 yards and 27 touchdowns in his first full season as the starter, and has tossed seven scores against just two interceptions in his past three games.
It should be a battle of the pass versus the run between these two squads on Sunday, as the Lions led the league in rushing yards and touchdowns, while Calgary gave up the fewest sacks and two-time All-Star Bo Levi Mitchell finished tops in the league with 32 touchdown passes.
The X-factor in this one could be on the defensive side of the ball and BC knows it will be challenging to generate takeaways against the Stampeders. Dave Dickerson and company turned the ball over only 26 times on the campaign, good enough for fewest in the CFL.
