Eskimos challenge RedBlacks for East crown in Grey Cup rematch
The Edmonton Eskimos defeated the Ottawa RedBlacks in last year's Grey Cup, but Sunday the two teams will square off in the East final.
Edmonton got here by way of the crossover game and a thrilling victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last week. It wasn't all good news for the Eskimos, though, as quarterback Mike Reilly left the game with an apparent arm injury.
Reilly is confident that he'll be ready to go Sunday, but it remains to be seen if the ailment will hinder the 2015 Grey Cup MVP against Ottawa. The pivot struggled in the windy conditions at Hamilton a week ago, going only 10-of-19 for 133 yards.
Meanwhile, the RedBlacks stumbled into the playoffs with a below .500 record and hope to use the bye week to get back on track. Ottawa signal-caller Henry Burris was able to stabilize the passing game down the stretch, throwing for more than 1,000 yards and four touchdowns in his past three starts.
Even though the RedBlacks are the underdogs and the Eskimos have won six of their past seven games, there is reason for optimism in the Nation's Capital. Ottawa defeated Edmonton in both meetings between the two teams this season.
