The Calgary Stampeders plan to wear a patch covering up the pistols on the shoulders of their jerseys to honor former defensive back Mylan Hicks.

Hicks was killed Sept. 25 when he was shot outside a nightclub in Calgary. He was 23 years old.

A pair of crossed pistols appear on each shoulder of the black alternate jerseys Calgary has worn since 1994.

"The team made the decision to cover the shoulder patch worn by the players on the field for the remainder of the 2016 season to acknowledge last month's tragic loss of Mylan Hicks," president and general manager John Hufnagel said, according to the Stampeders' official website.

"The Stampeders' black jersey has been very popular with many of our fans and players since we became the first CFL team to wear an alternate jersey in 1994 and it will remain an important part of our identity. Following the season, we will review all options in regards to potential changes to the design of the jersey."

The Stamps will be back in action Friday night when they look to extend their winning streak to 14 when they host the Toronto Argonauts.
