Argonauts face red-hot Roughriders with playoff hopes on life support

The Toronto Argonauts' playoff hopes are dwindling after they dropped eight of their last nine games.

Toronto is playing its final game at BMO Field this season - a place that hasn't been kind to the team, which has claimed just two victories at home.

Saskatchewan was officially eliminated from the postseason Monday, when Edmonton crushed Montreal 40-20, but the Roughriders are playing their best football of a disappointing season, winning the last three contests.

During the three-game streak, quarterback Darian Durant has completed 65 of 98 passes for 828 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, running back Curtis Steele has rushed for 181 yards, and receivers Caleb Holley and Armanti Edwards have combined for 437 yards.

Toronto, which sits three points back of first place in the East and two back of Hamilton for second place, is desperate for a win, and still has plenty of firepower. Quarterback Drew Willy has completed 73 percent of his passes for 594 yards and three touchdowns since coming over from Winnipeg, Brandon Whitaker leads the team in rushing with 830 yards and two scores, and receivers Kenny Shaw and Diontae Spencer have combined for more than 1,400 yards and eight touchdowns this year.

The Argonauts have won the last three meetings between the two clubs.

Should Toronto and Montreal both lose their Week 17 games, Edmonton will clinch a playoff spot, meaning just two East teams will move on to the postseason.
