Hamilton Tiger-Cats wide receiver Andy Fantuz will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL and is out for the remainder of the season, head coach Kent Austin confirmed Friday.

Fantuz didn't play in Hamilton's regular-season finale after he was forced to leave the previous week's contest with a knee injury.

Before going down, the 32-year-old was enjoying another productive season in the Steel City. He'll finish his 11th CFL campaign - fifth with the Tiger-Cats - with 101 receptions for 1,059 yards and five touchdowns.

Fantuz, who's on track to become a free agent at season's end, said he doesn't plan to retire and would like to return to Hamilton next year, according to the Hamilton Spectator's Drew Edwards.

Time will tell how quickly Fantuz can get back on the field, but an ACL tear typically takes 8-to-12 months to recover from.

The Ti-Cats are set to open the CFL playoffs Sunday, when they'll host the Edmonton Eskimos in the Eastern Semifinal.
