Als' Lewis blasts offence after loss: 'I told them to put it on my back'

Nik Lewis has had enough.

After a second straight home loss Thursday, the veteran Montreal Alouettes receiver called for changes, beginning with more passes being thrown in his direction.

"I told them to put it on my back. They didn't do it. I told them to put it on my back, and they didn't do it," an emotional Lewis told reporters after the game. "I made every play that came my way, didn't I? Pretty much every play. Let me carry you. I didn't get a chance to carry them like I wanted to.

"We keep grinding. I keep playing receiver, making plays when they give me an opportunity."

Lewis isn't wrong about that. The 34-year-old made 10 receptions for 92 yards, with 40 of those yards coming after the catch, but was still left wanting an even larger role.

"For me personally it’s very hard. It’s frustrating," Lewis said. "I want to be better and do more."

Lewis' effort was strong, but not enough to help the Als muster more than 14 points in the 19-14 loss to the Ottawa RedBlacks. The defeat dropped Montreal's record to 3-7, and Jim Popp's club now faces the danger of missing the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Apparently still upset Friday morning, Lewis continued airing his frustrations on Twitter:
