Blue Bombers look to continue road success vs. last-place Alouettes

The road has been friendly to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers thus far in 2016, and the club looks to continue its winning ways Friday in Montreal against the basement-dwelling Alouettes.

The Bombers sit third in the packed West Division, but hold an impressive 3-1 record away from Investors Group Field. Winnipeg comes in hot, having won three in a row after starting the season 1-3, including an impressive 34-17 triumph against the Toronto Argonauts two weeks ago.

Winnipeg's change of fortunes can be attributed to a resurgent offence, as the club has posted 30-plus points over the last three games. Since taking over for Drew Willy, Matt Nichols has led the charge from the quarterback position, throwing for 796 yards and five touchdowns during the winning streak.

If Nichols' success is to continue Friday, he will have to do so against a very stout Alouettes defence. While the club sits last in the East Division, the defence has allowed just 186 points this season, second-best in the league. They held the Bombers to just 14 points in a season-opening victory in Winnipeg on June 24.

The problem for the Alouettes has been on the other side of the football, as the offence ranks second-last in the CFL with just 173 points scored on the season. Montreal will need a strong performance from veteran quarterback Kevin Glenn, as the Bombers lead the league with a whopping 14 interceptions on the season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET at Montreal's Percival Molson Stadium.
