In an effort to propel themselves out of last place in the West Division, the Saskatchewan Roughriders acquired defensive backs Fred Bennett and Jeff Hecht from the Calgary Stampeders, the league announced Tuesday.

Calgary will receive two negotiation list players in return.

Bennett is a five-year CFL veteran with 73 career games under his belt, as well as 166 defensive tackles, ten interceptions, and seven forced fumbles. The 32-year-old was a member of the 2014 Grey Cup champion Stampeders and was named a West Division All-Star that season.

Hecht is in the midst of his sixth CFL season and has appeared in 70 career games recording 50 defensive tackles and 37 special teams tackles. The 30-year-old has one Grey Cup ring to his name, also earned as a member of the Stampeders in 2014.

Bennett has recorded 14 defensive tackles so far in 2016, while Hecht has recorded three.
