Ricky Ray to miss 3-5 weeks with MCL sprain

The Toronto Argonauts came away with a 30-17 victory Monday against the Montreal Alouettes, but it appears the price of victory was the health of Ricky Ray.

The franchise quaterback will miss three-to-five weeks after suffering an MCL sprain in the fourth quarter of Monday's game against the Alouettes, according to Gary Lawless of TSN. This is not Ray's first encounter with knee injuries, as he suffered a similar injury against Montreal in 2012.

Early speculation was that Ray could miss multiple weeks because of the similarity to the 2012 injury, and that notion was confirmed Tuesday.

In five starts so far in the 2016 season, Ray has gone 115-156 under centre for a total of 1,235 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions. After trading quarterback Mitchell Gale to the Saskatchewan Roughriders early on in the season, the responsibility of filling in for Ray appears to fall on the shoulders of backup Logan Kilgore.

Argos head coach Scott Milanovich addressed the issue during the team's postgame press conference Monday and said the time is now for Kilgore.

"It's time for him to step up and shine and do what many guys have done before him," Milanovich said.
