Blue Bombers host Eskimos, both in persuit of 2nd straight win

The Edmonton Eskimos hit the road for the first time this season on Thursday when they head into Winnipeg to face the Blue Bombers.

Both the Blue Bombers and Eskimos grabbed their first wins of the season in Week 3, Edmonton edging Saskatchewan 39-36, while Winnipeg held on to beat Hamilton 28-24.

The Blue Bombers, who've started slow, finally got their offence going, scoring 22 points in the first half. Quarterback Drew Willy completed 22 of 42 for 279 yards, one touchdown and hasn't thrown an interception in the last two games.

Willy mixed up the offence using six different receivers in the process, while also handing it off to Andrew Harris, who compiled 63 yards on the ground. The defence did struggle, however, conceding 411 total yards to the Tiger-cats.

Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly has completed 71.4 percent of his passes for 761 yards and five touchdowns through two games. Reilly has also spread the wealth on offence. Adarius Bowman and Derel Walker have teamed up for three touchdowns and 447 yards, while running back John White has two scores and 139 rushing yards.

The Eskimos defence hasn't been all that spectacular, giving up an average of 40.5 points per game.

Edmonton may have history on its side, though, having emerged victorious in the last six meetings between the two clubs, while Winnipeg hasn't won consecutive games since July 2014.
