The Ottawa RedBlacks didn't skip a beat without injured quarterback Henry Burris, defeating the Montreal Alouettes 28-13 in Montreal on Thursday night.

Both teams saw their offensive units sputter out of the gate - the game was tied 1-1 after the first quarter - but the RedBlacks found their groove in the second and didn't look back, while the Als continued to labour.

Led by backup quarterback Trevor Harris, the RedBlacks scored a pair of touchdowns before halftime, and took a 14-5 lead into the break. Harris, who replaced Burris in last week's overtime victory for the RedBlacks, was a smooth 20-of-26 for 395 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions in his first start for Ottawa.

He developed an electric connection with receiver Chris Williams, finding the 28-year-old seven times for 187 yards and a score on the night.

Montreal kept the game close throughout, but a Kevin Glenn interception with just over four minutes remaining in the final frame sealed the deal for the RedBlacks.

It didn't help the Alouettes that wide receiver Duron Carter got ejected in the third quarter after he celebrated a tough touchdown grab by walking into - and through - Ottawa head coach Rick Campbell. The act prompted a scuffle along the RedBlacks' bench, and Carter figures to face further discipline from the league.

The Als also lost fellow receiver S.J. Green, who left the contest in the first half with an apparent leg injury and didn't return.

Ottawa, too, was hit by the injury bug. Running back Travon Van appeared to get banged up and had his night cut short after notching 86 yards on 12 carries. The RedBlacks also lost special teams player Olivier Goulet-Veilleux, who was carted off the field in the first half with a broken leg.
