Harris' electric debut gives RedBlacks season-opening OT win

The Trevor Harris show has officially begun in Ottawa, and through one performance, it's getting rave reviews.

After an apparent hand injury knocked Henry Burris from the game in the third quarter, the former Toronto Argonauts pivot entered the fray and threw for three touchdowns, including the winning connection to Brad Sinopoli in overtime, as the Ottawa RedBlacks downed the Edmonton Eskimos 45-37 in a Grey Cup rematch.

Harris wasted no time in making his presence felt, throwing a career-long 71-yard touchdown on his first pass attempt. He would complete a remarkable 17-of-19 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns, but Ottawa would still need some heroics from kicker Chris Milo to give their new pivot a chance in the extra frame.

After Sean Whyte's fifth field goal of the night put Edmonton ahead by three with just 54 seconds left, it looked as though the Eskimos would yet again emerge victorious against the RedBlacks.

Harris promptly drove the RedBlacks down the field, and Milo took care of the deficit, blasting a 55-yard field goal to level the score with no time left on the clock. Sonopoli wriggled free of coverage on a brilliant play in overtime, and Harris made no mistake, hitting the second-year RedBlack for the go-ahead score.

Quarterback Mike Reilly was unable to lead the Edmonton offense to a first down, and an incomplete pass ended their chances in overtime, giving the Ottawa franchise its first win in Edmonton since 1983.

Edmonton has a bye in Week 2, while Ottawa faces the Montreal Alouettes in another big road test. The question that will be on everybody's minds prior to that contest is whether Harris should get the start, regardless of Burris' injury status.
