An efficient passing attack and strong second half helped the Calgary Stampeders pick up a 31-21 victory over the BC Lions on Friday in the preseason finale for both teams.

Bo Levi Mitchell didn't have the best of nights for the Stamps, as he was just 6-of-13 for 49 yards and a touchdown while playing the entire first half. Drew Tate relieved him to start the third quarter and fared much better, going 10-of-13 for 76 yards and a touchdown.

The game was tied 11-11 at halftime, but Tate's touchdown pass to Bakari Grant on the final play from scrimmage in the third frame gave the Stamps a 21-18 lead.

GJ Kinne and Andrew Buckley took over at quarterback in the fourth, and a 15-yard rushing touchdown by Lache Seastrunk late in the final frame put Calgary ahead for good, 31-21.

For the Lions, Jonathon Jennings once again played the role of franchise quarterback, going 16-for-20 through the air for 173 yards and a touchdown.

Backup quarterback Travis Lulay was 4-of-6 for 117 yards in limited action.

Lions tailback Jeremiah Johnson was the game's leading rusher, posting 52 yards on 10 carries, while Jerome Messam led the Stampeders with 42 yards on five carries.

Both teams will now get ready for the regular-season opener on June 25, when the Lions will once again host the Stamps.
