Castillo leads Blue Bombers past Alouettes in pre-season opener
Sergio Castillo connected on all four field-goal attempts to help Winnipeg cruise past Montreal 36-13 at Investors Group Field in the preseason opener.
Both teams used a number of quarterbacks during the game. Kevin Glenn of Montreal was the busiest, completing 14-of-19 passes for 140 yards and one touchdown, before being replaced by Rakeem Cato.
The Alouettes held a 13-3 in the second quarter when Cato connected with receiver Chandler Jones for a 12-yard touchdown.
It was all Blue Bombers after that. Castillo knocked three of his four field goals through in the third quarter. Quarterback Bryan Bennett scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth - one in the air and one on the ground - to put the game out of reach.
Former Oregon QB Vernon Adams' professional debut wasn't memorable with the Alouettes, as he had a pass deflected and intercepted by Garrett Waggoner.
Winnipeg travels to Ottawa to face the RedBlacks, while Montreal returns home to take on the Toronto Argonauts.
