Former Duke QB Anthony Boone released from hospital

Anthony Boone is healthy enough to return home, but his road to recovery is just starting.

The former Duke QB was released from Carolinas Medical Center on Saturday, after undergoing hip and hand surgeries following a head-on car crash with Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson, according to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer.

Boone was on his way to a workout at approximately 7:45 a.m. on May 22 when Thompson's SUV crossed the center line and collided with Boone's SUV.

Thompson cited reaching for his dropped cellphone as the cause of the accident.

"He's got a serious road ahead of him," said Adam Sattler, Boone's New York-based representative. "But we're happy he's home."

Sattler did not comment on any pending legal action against Thompson, but did leave the possibility after Boone begins his recovery process.

The 24-year-old suited up for the Montreal Alouettes last season and must overcome a broken hip and damage to the tendons and ligaments in his hand if he wishes to continue his career at the professional level.
