Whacking the Beer Snake

Now, I'm not saying that I don't think that the "beer snake"-- the gathering of thousands of cups into one continuous, snaking stack, which has apparently quickly become tradition in certain sections during Winnipeg Blue Bombers games-- seems kind of entirely pointless. But... these poor folks are at a CFL game, so obviously they have to find ways to entertain themselves.

So, even though it doesn't really make sense to me, I feel slightly saddened to hear that the beer snake-- seen in the video below-- will be no more. The team is cracking down "unruly and/or disorderly behavior in the stadium facility during the course of game day,” the Bombers said in a statement, according to 24 Hours Vancouver. “Specifically, this behaviour relates to the ‘beer snake’ concept."

And inexplicably, they're claiming it's because of "injuries" suffered by fans-- albeit minor ones.

Injuries??? It's a bunch of plastic cups!

I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Godspeed, beer snake...
