Cleo Lemon signs with the Toronto Argonauts

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - After wiping his roster clean of all quarterbacks last month, Toronto Argonauts head coach Jim Barker has filled his stable to the brim, announcing the signing of journeyman Cleo Lemon on Wednesday.

Lemon becomes the fourth quarterback under contract in Toronto.

"Cleo is a mobile quarterback with experience as a starter in the NFL," Barker said in a release. "He is smart, accurate and has a reputation as a solid decision-maker. We are excited to watch Cleo compete with our other quarterbacks for the opportunity to lead our club."

After releasing veterans Kerry Joseph and Cody Pickett, the Argos have added former Buffalo Bills backup Gibran Hamdan, Queen's University star Danny Brannagan and acquired Dalton Bell from the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Toronto finished last in the CFL's East Division last season with a 3-15 record, missing the playoffs for the second straight season. The Argos have changed owners, overhauled their coaching staff and remodelled their roster.

Lemon's NFL career has featured stops in Baltimore, San Diego, Miami and Jacksonville. He has thrown for 2,702 yards and eight touchdowns over his career, which crested with the Dolphins, where he started in nine of 27 games.

"Now it is my responsibility to be in the best shape of my life and learn as much about the Canadian game as possible before I hit the field," Lemon said in a release. "I'm excited about this opportunity and intend to take full advantage of it."
