WTF?: Crazy Free Throw
Happy Wednesday everybody! Or... whatever day it is. We've got a nice little holiday backlog of gold to take care of, so let's get to it, huh? First up is a ridiculously awesome free throw from Kamil Gawrzydek of Idaho State, which nearly actually got stuck on the front of the rim-- which apparently is possible.
"There's absolutely no reason the ball couldn't actually do that if all the conditions were right because you have two round surfaces," said John Fontanella, physics professor at the US Naval Academy and author of The Physics Of Basketball. "As long as the middle of the ball is directly above the middle of the rim, theoretically it can stay there as long as it likes until it's disturbed by something. Maybe the conditions were just right."
It didn't quite get stuck there, but it was awesomely close.
