Minor League Manager Has Epic Meltdown, Gives Base To Fan
You may remember the epic meltdown that Joe Mikulik had as manager of the Asheville Tourists (class-A affiliate of the Rockies) after being ejected from a game in 2006, in which he picked up second base and threw it, threw bats from the dugout onto the field, and (hilariously) spiked a water bottle on home plate (click here for video of that meltdown).
Well, Mikulik is still the Tourists' manager, and he's still throwing awesome tirades. The latest one took place during a Tourists game against the Charleston RiverDogs (class-A affiliate of the Yankees) on Friday night, after Mikulik thought the RiverDogs' Cito Culver should've been called out for running outside of the basepaths.
Mikulik absolutely flipped out at (and it appears may have even flipped off) an umpire, pulled third base out of the ground, and proceeded to hand the base to a fan in the stands.
