Signing Day Swag

A lot of people have told me that I shouldn't work in sports media, since I find so many of the rituals associated with sports to be kind of ridiculous. It's not that I don't love watching games. It's just that I don't have a whole ton of interest in the peripheral events.

The silliest of all, in my opinion, is National Signing Day. It's a day that sees grown men get Christmas Morning-type excited about watching teenage boys try on hats and mumble out some indecipherable clichés. The whole thing just seems weird, unseemly, and totally manufactured to fill time in what's become a 24-hour sports-news cycle.

Thankfully, Kwon Alexander, a linebacker from Oxford, AB, was kind enough to break up the monotony by injecting a little swag into the proceedings. When Alexander committed to the LSU Tigers, he didn't just wear the hat. He also rocked a matching, LSU-purple bowtie-and-suspender combination. It was a nice touch.

(As an aside, you know that the folks at Alabama, Auburn and Oklahoma State, which were the other hats on the table, must have been pretty bummed when he walked out in purple accessories.)
