RetroBuzz: Hokus Pokus
This week, RetroBuzz looks at some of the great skateboard videos from the '80s and '90s.
I am nothing if not a populist, so when reader nonickname asked me to post a clip from H-Street's 1989 video Hokus Pokus, I had to oblige. Then I realized that a very, very young Kien Lieu is in this video, and that made me super stoked.
For those of you who don't know, Kien "Donger" Lieu was the king of the stupid big ollie in the early-and-mid '90s. He was kind of the Spud Webb of skating, a small guy who could jump very high. In 1995 or so, he co-founded Maple skateboards, then had his own spin-off brand named dynasty. He took some time away from skating at the turn of the millenium, but he's back now, running a company called Invincible.
Anyway, here he is in his teens, before he had the trademark hair, kicking some major ass.
