Christine Sinclair is Tough
Canadian women's soccer team captain Christine Sinclair isn't just the toughest female soccer player on the planet, she may be the toughest football player in the world full stop.
After going down 2-0 in Canada's World Cup opener against Germany, Sinclair took an elbow to the face from Germany's Babett Peter, breaking her nose. After being escorted to the sidelines, Sinclair refused to stay off the pitch for treatment, at one point slapping a medical official's hand away and saying "I'm fine. I want to play. Don't touch me."
After realizing that they weren't going to get anywhere with the hard-headed Canuck, they grudgingly let her return to the pitch, where she scored Canada's only goal of the match on a free kick.
I realize that there are no moral victories in sports, but this is pretty damn close. If nothing else, Sinclair proved that it takes more than a sharp elbow to the face to keep a Canadian girl down.
Check out this goal.
