Georgia confirms Gurley suffered torn left ACL, surgery date not yet determined

by Nov 16, 7:15 PM

The University of Georgia confirmed running back Todd Gurley has a torn ACL on Sunday and will require surgery.

Gurley suffered the injury during Saturday's game against Auburn, his first game back since being suspended four games after accepting money for signed memorabilia and other items while at Georgia.

Gurley also took to Twitter for the first time since Aug. 29 and left a short message for all his followers:

Within the last two weeks Georgia had raised Gurley's insurance policy to $10 million in coverage, according to ESPN's Darren Rovell.

Gurley would be payed $5 million for total disability if he got injured and was never able to play another snap of football. He'd also get $5 million in loss of value insurance, which would take effect if the running back injured himself and slipped in the draft.

The insurance was reportedly raised during Gurley's four-game suspension and cost the university between $50-60,000.

A date for Gurley's upcoming surgery has not yet been announced.

Report: Georgia's Todd Gurley tore ACL in left knee

by Nov 16, 3:01 PM

It's the worst case scenario for Georgia.

An MRI exam has shown that running back Todd Gurley has suffered a torn ACL in his left knee, according to a macon.com report.

Gurley suffered the injury during Saturday's game against Auburn, his first game back since being suspended four games after accepting money for signed memorabilia and other items while at Georgia.

The injury, if confirmed, will cost Gurley the rest of the 2014 season, and likely end his college career. He rushed for a whopping 911 yards on 123 carries in only six games this season, scoring nine touchdowns.

Gurley, a junior, had Heisman Trophy hopes before his suspension, and was considered a lock to enter the 2015 NFL Draft.

After being examined by the team's training staff, Gurley sat on the training table with ice on his knee and was being consoled by his teammates. He eventually walked to the locker room with a trainer.

Gurley complained to trainers about pain on the outside of his knee, according to ESPN's Holly Rowe.
