Stuttgart midfielder Daniel Didavi set to join Wolfsburg

Berlin - Wolfsburg is set to sign Daniel Didavi, VfB Stuttgart's top scorer with 10 goals this campaign, for next season, the German midfielder revealed on Tuesday.

"I'm going to Wolfsburg," said the 26-year-old attacking midfielder, who insists he did not use speculation about his departure to raise his salary at Stuttgart.

"There were honest conversations and I didn't want to gamble.

"Anyone who knows me knows this was a decision based purely on sport."

Didavi is a former Germany junior international, but has put himself in the frame for the senior team with a series of eye-catching performances with 10 goals and five assists this season.

He joined Stuttgart in 2003 as a 12-year-old and spent a season on loan at Nuremberg.

He has made 77 Bundesliga appearances and scored 24 goals since breaking into Stuttgart's first team in 2009.

"We're losing not just a good footballer, but also a good person in David Didavi," said Stuttgart's director of sport Robin Dutt.

Next season he will be battling Germany international Julian Draxler for the attacking midfielder berth at Wolfsburg, who are struggling to qualify for European competition.

Wolfsburg sits eighth in Germany's top flight with Stuttgart 12th.

His best display this season was when he scored two goals in his side's 3-1 win at home in January - against future employers Wolfsburg.

There was more bad news for Stuttgart as Ivory Coast midfielder Serey Die is out for the rest of the season after the 31-year-old tore his groin.

"That's bitter news, Serey Die is a fighter and we'll miss him," added Dutt, with Die expected to even miss Stuttgart's pre-season training for the coming campaign.
