Report: Pep Guardiola would prefer move to Manchester United

Manchester United will have a difficult decision to make if reports of Pep Guardiola's desire to call Old Trafford home are revealed to be true.

With the club performing well and keeping pace with table-toppers Manchester City and Leicester City, United will have to decide if Louis van Gaal is the man to lead the team back to glory, or if the temptation to bring Guardiola in is too great. The Bayern Munich manager is believed to have a soft spot for the Red Devils, according to Sam Wallace of The Telegraph.

A move for the Spanish gaffer could be costly for United thanks to the £7-million buyout clause in the agreement van Gaal signed when he arrived in the summer of 2014. Van Gaal's contract is set to expire after next season.

Doubts about Guardiola's future in charge of the Bavarian powerhouse have been rampant, as talks over a new deal with Bayern have seemingly stalled with less than a year remaining on his current contract.

Bayern president Karl Heinz Rummenigge revealed that both parties have engaged in talks over a new deal, and that he expects the situation to be resolved in the new year. But the former Bayern player also indicated that the defending Bundesliga champions will not be held hostage by Guardiola's preference to make a last-minute decision.
