Pep Guardiola says Bastian Schweinsteiger hasn't been fit for 3 years
Bastian Schweinsteiger's fitness has been brought into question once again following comments from his former manager at Bayern Munich.
Pep Guardiola anticipates Schweinsteiger could potentially be a great signing for Manchester United, unless he's bothered by a similar series of injuries that's seen the German international lack the proper fitness to perform at an elite level for three years.
“When he does not have injury problems, I am completely convinced he will do very well at Manchester United," Guardiola told reporters. "He is going to play really good there (at United). I really hope that is going to happen.”
Knee and ankle injuries limited Schweinsteiger during Bayern Munich's championship-winning season in the Bundesliga, as the 31-year-old only managed to appear in 20 league matches.
Schweinsteiger, who joined United in July for £15 million, has also faced criticism from his new manager, Louis van Gaal, following a poor performance during a preseason win against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Nonetheless, the midfielder figures to play a major role when the season kicks off, as United aims to improve on last year's top-four finish.
