In a vote conducted by Germany's soccer writers, Wolfsburg's Kevin De Bruyne has been named Player of the Year following a standout season at league runners-up Wolfsburg.

De Bruyne, 24, who has reportedly been a transfer target for Manchester City during this summer's period, beat out Bayern Munich pair Arjen Robben and Manuel Neuer for the award.

The crafty Belgian is credited with Wolfsburg's return to Bundesliga relevance, scoring 10 league goals with 20 assists to help the central-German club finish 10 points off of perennial champions Bayern.

"To be voted best player in a country abroad means a lot," De Bruyne said. "This is the reward for my season."

De Bruyne had already been chosen Bundesliga Player of the Year by his peers in June, an award similar to that of England's PFA Player of the Year. He now has the honour of being considered the Bundesliga's best by both fellow players and the nation's soccer writers.

De Bruyne wasn't the only member of Die Wolfe to win one of German soccer publication Kicker's post-season Bundesliga honours, as Wolfsburg gaffer Dieter Hecking was named Coach of the Year.
