Mario Gotze's agent, Volker Struth, feels that Bayern Munich hung his client out to dry during a season of discontent with the Bundesliga champions.

Struth accused the team of failing to support Gotze throughout the season, failing to put him in a position to thrive on the supremely talented Bayern Munich squad.

"Of course I would have liked if Mario had felt more support in one or two situations," Struth told German publication Bild am Sonntag, courtesy of Sky Sports.

"I am fully convinced that when Mario feels this support, it is easier for him to show his incredible potential. Then he is one of the best players in the world."

In his first season since scoring the winning goal at the World Cup, Gotze saw his participation in big matches take a dip. He was left off the starting squad for matches against Barcelona in the Champions League semifinal and Borussia Dortmund in the German Cup final.

"Of course he was disappointed and that did bother him," Struth added. "As a player, you are always wondering 'why did I not start?'

"That is why Mario moved to Bayern – to be playing in these big matches and to win titles. But then you get under a certain amount of pressure and it is hard to shake this off.

"I can only repeat what I said – I would have liked a bit more support now and again and this is what I have grown to expect from Bayern."

Gotze's frustrating second season with Bayern also earned the midfielder the unwanted distinction of being voted the league's second biggest flop by his peers in the Bundesliga.
