Borussia Dortmund sporting director expects Hummels to stay next season
Chances of a move to Manchester United appear to be fading after Mats Hummels put an end to speculation about his playing future.
Discussions between Borussia Dortmund and Hummels have left the club's sporting director, Michael Zorc, confident the German defender will resist the temptation to leave during the summer transfer window.
Zorc met with Hummels' father, Hermann, who is also the player's agent, and indicated he's convinced the centre back will remain at the Westfalenstadion next season.
"It was fair enough that Mats gave it some thought, but I have always pointed out that he is firmly part of our plans," Zorc told German publication Kicker.
His future with the team has been a topic throughout the season, and was given new life after head coach Jurgen Klopp announced his plans to leave following the current Bundesliga campaign.
United have long been connected with a move for the World Cup-winning defender, but Hummels, whose contract expires in 2017, now appears to be an integral part Dortmund's rebuilding process following their disappointing start to the season that leaves them on the verge of missing out on a European spot next season.
His possible return will be a massive boost for the club and incoming manager Thomas Tuchel, as they aim to return next year as Bayern Munich's biggest challengers for the Bundesliga title.
