Bayern Munich's Badstuber to miss rest of season with thigh injury

Holger Badstuber may be the unluckiest man in football.

Bayern Munich confirmed Thursday that the oft-injured central defender will miss the rest of the season after suffering a thigh muscle tear. He will require surgery and need three-to-four months to recover.

It's unclear when Badstuber suffered the injury since he was able to complete Tuesday's Champions League match without being substituted during Bayern's 6-1 victory against FC Porto.

Badstuber seems to be a lightning rod when it comes to serious injuries. He suffered a similar thigh injury in September, that also required surgery and forced him to miss over four months before returning Jan. 30.

The thigh injury earlier in the season occurred just months after he returned from a devastating knee injury. Badstuber tore the cruciate ligament in his knee in December 2012 and was forced to miss 14 months after re-tearing the ligament during rehabilitation. In total, he needed four operations to repair the joint.

The German international joins a long list of injured Bayern Munich players, as Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, David Alaba, Mehdi Benatia, Bastian Schweinsteiger and others have gone down with injuries.
