Bayern Munich CEO on Julian Green: 'He will probably need 1 more year at a club wherever'

Things have gone downhill for Julian Green since his dramatic extra-time goal for the United States Men's National Team at last year's World Cup.

Bayern Munich sent the 19-year-old prodigy to Hamburger SV on a season-long loan in September, and since arriving at the Volksparkstadion, he's struggled to earn playing time and made only five Bundesliga appearances, the most recent of which came in November.

It's also unlikely that Green benefits from Hamburg's recent sacking of manager Joe Zinnbauer, as Peter Knabel, who will take over as coach until the end of the season, is also the club's sporting director and attempted to send the teenage midfielder to 1860 Munich in January.

Just what happens from here on remains to be seen, but Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes Green will likely spend another season out on loan and could potentially join a Premier League club.

"It's looking likely that he'll come back (to Bayern) at the end of the season and we'll have to sit together to find the best solution for him," Rummenigge said, according to Goal. "He will probably need one more year at a club wherever - in Germany or England, I don't know - to show his quality and I believe he has that quality."

Hamburg sit 16th in the Bundesliga table with only 25 points from 26 fixtures and are set for a relegation battle as the season enters its final stages.
