The prospect of seeing Thorgan Hazard on the pitch alongside his brother at Chelsea is over for the time being after the Belgian made his stay at Borussia Monchengladbach permanent on Monday.

The Bundesliga team also announced that Hazard signed a contract that will keep him at the club through the 2019/20 season.

Hazard, the younger brother of Eden, has been on loan at Monchengladbach since the summer, after three years of failing to break into the Chelsea squad since signing with them in 2012.

He signed with Chelsea as a 19-year-old, but the majority of his time has been spent on loan, primarily with Zulte Waregem before his loan spell in the Bundesliga.

“In recent months Thorgan has shown how big a talent he is. We’re delighted to have signed him and that he has chosen to spend the coming years playing for us,” the team's sporting directory Max Eberl said.

Hazard has made 19 league appearances for Monchengladbch, scoring once and registering five assists, and should see his stock rise over the next couple years as he receives consistent playing time.
