Report: Stuttgart set to sack coach Schneider

BERLIN, March 04, 2014 - VfB Stuttgart are poised to sack coach Thomas Schneider after a club record of eight consecutive defeats, according to reports on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old took training on Monday in the wake of Stuttgart's 2-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt which extended the club's record for consecutive defeats to eight matches on Sunday.

But German daily Bild reported Thorsten Fink, who was fired by Hamburg in September, is set to take over.

According to SID, an AFP subsidiary, Stuttgart's director of sport Fredi Bobic and president Bernd Wahler fought to keep Schneider in a meeting on Monday, but the club's board were not convinced.

Stuttgart are 16th in the league table, but only escape the relegation places on goal difference and host a crucial match on Saturday against bottom side Eintracht Braunschweig.

Schneider only took charge of Stuttgart last August after predecessor Bruno Labbadia was fired.
