Dortmund slams Reus injury worries

Reuters

Amid speculation that Marco Reus could miss six months nursing an adductor injury, Borussia Dortmund has dismissed those reports, claiming the German international is on schedule to return for the start of the 2016-17 season.

The Bundesliga's reigning runner-up dispelled talk of an extended layoff for the versatile attacker in a statement released Tuesday.

"The 27-year-old has certainly not suffered any tendon or pubic bone damages ruling him out of the remainder of 2016, as some rumours have been suggesting today. Injuries of this type have not been diagnosed by the club doctor or the doctors working with the national team," the statement reads.

Reus suffered the injury during the DFB-Pokal final defeat to Bayern Munich, and subsequently missed out on Joachim Low's 23-man Germany squad for Euro 2016.

"BVB midfielder Marco Reus is currently on holiday recovering from a small laceration to his adductor as well as a slight inflammation of the pubic bone, which was already known," the statement says.

"Reus, who made 43 appearances in all competitions for BVB last season, scoring 23 goals and setting up a further eight in the process, is expected to make a full return to fitness by mid-August if the healing process continues as planned."
